About this site

An independent educational resource on California landlord-tenant law.

The short answer

California Landlord Resource Center is an independent educational resource that explains California landlord-tenant law in plain English and links to the official sources. It is not a law firm, a government agency, or a source of legal advice.

How are the guides written?

  • Start from the source. Each rule is checked against the current statute or official agency page, and the link is shown next to it.
  • Say what we couldn’t confirm. Anything we have not been able to verify is marked with an amber flag instead of being guessed.
  • Show the date. Every guide shows when it was last reviewed. The wizard shows when its CPI and emergency-order data were last updated.
  • Stay neutral. The site does not sell services, take referral fees or favor any company, and uses fair-housing-safe language throughout.

What can’t this site do?

It can’t tell you what to do in your situation. Local ordinances, lease terms and facts change the answer. For decisions that matter — serving a notice, withholding a deposit, ending a tenancy — talk to a qualified California attorney or your local rent board. See the disclaimer.
